Connect your AI
Set up Safe-Desk with the AI your office already uses.
Safe-Desk swaps client data for placeholders before ChatGPT or Claude sees it. Connecting takes a few minutes and you do it once per computer or per AI account. Pick how you work below and follow the steps. This page checks each connection for you and turns green when it works.
Which one fits how you work?
You can set up more than one. Most offices start with the first.
Path A
The Chrome extension
For anyone who opens ChatGPT or Claude in Google Chrome. Do this once on each computer.
-
Add it to Chrome
Open the Safe-Desk page in the Chrome Web Store and choose Add to Chrome, then Add extension.
You'll see a message that Safe-Desk was added. Click the puzzle-piece icon at the top right of Chrome and pin Safe-Desk so its icon stays in view.
-
Download the extension
The Chrome Web Store listing is on its way. Until it is up, download the extension from Safe-Desk: sign in, open Settings, and choose Download the extension.
You'll see a file named
safe-desk-extension.zipin your Downloads. Right-click it and choose Extract All (on a Mac, double-click it). Remember where the folder lands. -
Load it into Chrome
Copy this address, paste it into Chrome's address bar and press Enter. Chrome won't open it from a link.
chrome://extensionsTurn on Developer mode at the top right. Choose Load unpacked and pick the folder you extracted.
You'll see a Safe-Desk card on the page. Click the puzzle-piece icon at the top right of Chrome and pin Safe-Desk.
-
Get a connection code
The code links the extension to your Safe-Desk account. It works once, for 10 minutes.
Or in Safe-Desk, open Settings and press Get a connection code. It's the same code.
-
Type the code into the extension
Click the Safe-Desk icon in Chrome's toolbar. Type or paste the 8-character code and press Connect.
You'll see your name, your firm, and Active on ChatGPT and Claude. From now on, open ChatGPT or Claude as usual.
Sign in to Safe-Desk so this page can check.
If something goes wrong
The extension says the code didn't work
Each code works once and runs out after 10 minutes. Press Get a connection code again and type the new one straight away. The code is 8 letters and numbers; spaces and dashes don't matter.
I can't find the Safe-Desk icon in Chrome
Click the puzzle-piece icon at the top right of Chrome. Safe-Desk is in that list. Click the pin next to it so it stays on the toolbar.
There's no Developer mode switch, or Load unpacked is missing
Make sure the address bar says chrome://extensions; the switch is at the top right of that page. If it is greyed out, the computer is managed by a work policy that blocks it. Email us and we'll help you get the extension another way.
Add to Chrome is greyed out or blocked
Chrome on some work computers is managed by a policy that only allows approved extensions. Ask whoever set up the computer to allow Safe-Desk, or email us and we'll help.

Path B
The connector in Claude or ChatGPT
Your own Claude or ChatGPT reads client files you upload to Safe-Desk, with placeholders where the client details were, and hands the finished draft back. Do this once for each AI account.
-
Copy the Safe-Desk address
Everyone uses the same address.
https://desk.sophiaxt.com/mcp -
Add it to your AI app
In Claude: open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector. Name it Safe-Desk and paste the address.
In ChatGPT: open Settings, then Connectors. Under Advanced, turn on developer mode. Choose Create, name it Safe-Desk, paste the address and choose OAuth.
Soon Safe-Desk will be listed in both apps' connector directories. Then you'll find Safe-Desk there and click Connect instead of pasting.
-
Allow it on the Safe-Desk page
Your AI app opens a Safe-Desk page. Sign in if it asks. Check that the page names your app and your own account, then choose Allow.
You'll see your AI app again, with Safe-Desk listed as connected.
-
Try it on a file
Upload a client document under Files in Safe-Desk. In a chat, turn on the Safe-Desk connector from the tools menu and ask, for example: "List my Safe-Desk files and draft a reply to the newest one."
You'll see a link to the finished document. It opens on Safe-Desk with the real details filled in, and only you can open it.
Sign in to Safe-Desk so this page can check.
If something goes wrong
I don't see Connectors, or Add custom connector
Custom connectors depend on your plan. On Claude Team and Enterprise, the organization's owner may need to add Safe-Desk first. In ChatGPT, developer mode must be on under Settings, Connectors, Advanced, and your workspace has to allow it. These menus move from time to time, so email us if yours look different.
The Safe-Desk page shows an error, or Allow does nothing
Sign in to Safe-Desk in the same browser first, then start again from your AI app. If the page says the request expired, close it and add the connector again; each request lasts 10 minutes.
The AI says it can't find any files
The connector only sees files you uploaded under Files in Safe-Desk, and only your own. Upload one first, and turn the Safe-Desk connector on in that chat's tools menu. It can't see what you paste into the chat itself; the Chrome extension covers that.
Still stuck? Email contactus@sophiaxt.com and we'll walk you through it. More detail is in the connector guide.
Path C
Chat inside Safe-Desk
Staff type into the chat on the Safe-Desk page. The firm's owner connects an AI provider once, for everyone.
You're signed in as staff. Only your firm's owner can connect a provider, so send them this page.
-
Open Settings as the owner
Sign in to Safe-Desk with the owner account and open Settings. Find the part called Your AI provider.
-
Connect a provider
Choose Connect with OpenRouter, sign in to OpenRouter and approve Safe-Desk. Or paste an API key from Anthropic or OpenAI instead. Your provider bills your own account, and staff never see the key.
You'll see "Connected", with the last four characters of the key. Pick a model if it asks.
-
Send a test message
Open Chat and send something with no client details in it, such as "Say hello." An answer means it works.
Sign in to Safe-Desk so this page can check.
If something goes wrong
I don't see a place to connect a provider
Only the owner account has it, in Settings under Your AI provider. If you are staff, ask your owner. If you are the owner and don't see it, email us.
The key was refused
Copy the whole key again with no spaces before or after it. Check that it is still active in your provider account.
The chat answers with an error from the provider
Safe-Desk tells you when the provider account is out of credit. Add credit in your OpenRouter, Anthropic or OpenAI account, then send the test message again. Your message was still checked, and nothing sensitive was sent.
Still stuck? Email contactus@sophiaxt.com and we'll walk you through it.
